Hydrangea quercifolia
Height: 0,4–0,5 m
The oakleaf hydrangea is a deciduous shrub of exceptional beauty, growing to a height of about 1.8-2.5 meters. Its leaves resemble oak leaves, hence the name oakleaf; they are large, deeply lobed and bright green, and by the end of summer they turn coral red. Its flowers are large and white, similar to the blossoms of the horse chestnut, and bloom in July and August. It is recommended to plant it in a sunny (but not direct sun) or partly shaded spot. It requires well-drained, slightly acidic or neutral soil rich in nutrients. Its water needs are moderate, and it also tolerates drought well, but in that case it will flower less. In winter, it is advisable to protect the young stems from frost with mulch. It draws attention with its large, elegant white flower clusters and beautiful autumn foliage color.
